capturing light ....

 ~  Sacred Lotus - Nelumbo Nucifera   ~

I love this time of the year when our Botanic Gardens
are alive with the colours of summer
I can sneek in very early and capture morning light on
hand painted petals

Almost Christmas ....

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Our city is all lit up for Christmas
but no snow for us here in the southern hemisphere

city skies .......

there's something magical about night skies
scruffy sectors are hidden -  and the mundane by day
suddenly becomes quite glamorous by night

medley of masts ......

~ a jungle of rigging amid a medley of masts   ~
walking around north-haven marina
with dolphins gliding in-between yachts big and small
made a great start to a very hot summer day

solitary .......

there's something lovely about  a solitary seagull
can you see him standing silently in the shallows ?
 posing  - perfectly
reflected in the golden light of an early morning.
perhaps his mates were still sleeping

looking in my shop window .......

  Villa Provence   Toorak Gardens   ~
I love this jam-packed French Provincial cum Shabby Chic shop
with it's eclectic mix of quaint jugs bird-cages wrought-iron chairs
candle-stick holders and wicker baskets that spill out onto the walkway
enticing people like me to go inside and take a look
which of course I do !!

around the lakes ....

~   late afternoon light over Mawson Lakes   ~

crossing the bridge near the end of the lake
a good spot to pause and enjoy the vista
sometimes dark and moody skies with choppy waters
but more than not, blue skies reflected in still waters

behind closed doors .......

Glen Ewin Estate   Lower Hermitage  ~

ever wondered what lies behind closed doors ?
especially a crackled-paint ivy-clad door
that looks as if it hasn't been opened in a looo...ng time.

blue poles ......

do you ever find yourself deciding  between 2 photos ?
In most cases I quickly delete one -  so that the decision is done and dusted
or sometimes it's just much easier to post them both

poetry in motion ......

~   Magazine Road Wetlands  - Gillman   ~
there's something magical about the way banded-stilts
walk amid the shallows

~   long red legs stepping silently seeking out tasty morsels
and now and again -  a little posing for the photographer  ~
Banded Stilts are endemic to Australia and quite unique
they nest colonially - lay white eggs - have white downy chicks
and put their young into crèches - how very modern !!

5am ........

~   henley beach jetty   ~

the hour before sunrise is the prettiest time of the day
it just means getting up very early to capture those soft morning hues
and to top it off,  there's always the reward of coffee and croissant
at the beach-side bakery
It was quite dark when I took these pics
so I used long exposure on a tripod which picked up
the pastels of morning skies while creating a soft silky sea-scape

lady in the yellow dress .......

spotted this lovely lady while lunching at a French Café
she seemed to blend in with the French Crème and lime green surrounds beautifully
and so of course I had to ask if I could take her photo

small window of opportunity ........

  Sunset from Kings College   ~
A scene like this lasts but a few seconds.
A small window of opportunity to grab my camera
before the sun silently dips below the horizon

                                         of a new dawn"

pink salt .......

~   St-Kilda Salt-fields   ~
standing pretty amid pink-salt
I love the Italian word chiacchierata
which means to chit-chat
I imagine that's exactly what these sea-gulls
are doing - catching up with what's happening
around the lakes whilst resting their legs on a rock of
pink salt crystals

Table 22 .............

"the purpose of art is
washing the dust of daily life
off our souls"
                                                             " Pablo Picasso"
Central Market Street-Art
by Paul Whitehead
Each time I visit the market I love to stop and peruse the wonderful
walls of colour depicting Market Life in our city
there's always a little story in there that is new to my eyes.
In the pic above I like how the lady in pink puff jacket
is chatting to hubby across the way while waiting for coffee
at Table 22

starlights in the burbs ......

photographing light-trails in the suburbs isn't that easy
but last night a friend joined me in a walk around our suburbs
trying to capture clear starlike lighting with nice long car/bus trail-lights
It was a lot of fun and we managed some reasonable pics

Banded Stilts ....

Elegant tall legged banded-stilts ( Cladorhynchus Leucephalus )
have flown into the "Samphire Coast"  to summer-over .

What a joy to see hundreds of these lovely shore-birds who have flown over
700 hundred km from their winter home on the salt-lakes of Lake Eyre - Lake Torrens
and Lake Ballard in central Australia

~   St Kilda shores in the early evening light   ~
the colour distortion happened while blogging direct for my iPad
but you can still get an idea of their graceful posture whilst foraging
in the shallows for delicacies such as
wait for it  ....  brine shrimps !!

pretty in pink - this flower grows wildly on the edge of the salt-fields
amid rusty wire fencing - weeds and aged timber posts
but to me it is just perfect

a little dab of red ........

this capture is not about the person - it's about fabric and paint
and of course soft light and shade
amongst the hustle and bustle of pedestrians on our river footbridge
I was captivated by the rich colours this artists had created on white fabrics
a little dab of red and a little dab of magenta and voila!!

almost summer ....

~   Henley Jetty   ~
These last few days have been a real treat with
summery days and time to beach-walk
Heading north it's one mile exactly to Grange Jetty
and my favourite little coffee shop cum bakery
just perfect for a croissant and coffee
before the return walk

A Sheltered life ....

a shelter of a different kind   ~
breaking free from the confines of it's cosy shelter
this pretty poppy spread its papery crepe-de-chine petals
and quickly discarded it's hairy bud spheres

fuzzy little buds and crumpled petals have a beauty of their own
I started writing my post about bus shelters in our city
but during that time this poppy bud emerged from it's cocoon
right before my eyes
I hope you like it !

Man in a Pink Shirt ......

~   Adelaide Botanic Gardens   ~
wisteria arbour in the Adelaide City Botanic Gardens
currently awash with hues of lilac and soft cream.
Our photography group visited for term 3 break-up
and it was our task to capture not only a lovely picture
but something that had a bit of a human interest slant
I was delighted when these guys stopped for a photo shoot
especially since one was wearing a lovely pink shirt
the perfect colour for my pic ,,,,  clickety click !!
