Who Owns The Street .....

You would think that Leigh Street ... a small west-end laneway steeped in history
would be owned by the city council!!  but no- it is actually a privately owned street
shops footpath and paved road are all privately owned
thus the sign at the end
Who owns the street?

In a bid to revamp Adelaide's laneways the street is currently closed to traffic
in an attempt to turn the area into a more cosmopolitan area with street artists
musicians and out-door eateries.

That's intersting Dianne. I wonder how it became to privately owned. The shop owners must pay rent for right of way otherwise the owner of the street could cut off their passing trade.

I love pedestrianised streets but then I am usually a pedestrian! It's good to hear that musicians and artists are being encouraged, too often it's the opposite.

I like the idea of no trffic in the street I think it gives you time to wander without worrying about the traffic.

Terrific scenes - I love anything made pedestrian-friendly, cars are way too favored here in the states!

(Oh, I tried an heirloom tomato with a sprinkle of sea salt, as you suggested, it was SOO delicious - thank you! :)

We were in Germany in June and were struck by how many cities had limited streets to pedestrian use. These pedestrian ways were SO much more enjoyable.

Gosh it looks terrific. I was just reading Andrews blog 'High Rise" about the demise of the Melbourne lanes. Brisbane as always has a lot of catching up to do.

Well now that is interesting Dianne, I'm not sure how that works but I bet Leigh Street is all the more attractive for it. Somehow I don't see it looking like this if it was council owned.

Dianne this street looks vaguely familiar, where abouts is it? I loved the Rundle Mall area, there was always something going on there. I wish we had something like that here, I could spend hours sitting and listening to the entertainment, oh and people watching. :-)
