The Chappell Stands Come Crashing Down ........

This photo was taken a few months ago before bulldozers demolished
the western portion of our beautiful and unique Adelaide oval.

The stands on the right side include two Chappell Stands named after cricketing brothers
Ian, Gregg and Trevor Chappell and the Bradman stand
named after Sir Donald Bradman... probably Australia's greatest ever cricketer.

We have been promised a brand new world class stadium which will be home to
both Cricket and Australian Rules Football at an estimated cost of  $350.2m
and so it's out with the old and in with the new.

As you can imagine this has all happened amid much controvesy!!

Another great night shot. I hope they keep the names for the new stands.

Oh, these things are always a bit sad, though I do love your photo. Hopefully the new will measure up to the old.

I also love your seed pod photo from yesterday.

It's going to be so interesting to see what they replace it with Dianne, I wonder if it'll be along the same lines as our new sports arena here in Perth, tres modern!!

I can well imagine the amount of controversy!! Like Ciel, I can't help but wonder why we always seem to need more, more, more! Terrific capture for the day, Dianne! Hope your week is off to a great start!

What a shame. Such history just being bulldozed away. I wonder what the new stands will be like. Do you think it will help the Aussies hit more sixes?

Wow, I can't even fathom 350 mil!

Great shot Dianne, thank goodness for photos to treasure days gone by. I hope to see the new stadium one day, that's one thing I didn't get to do is go to a Cricket match. Next time!

Have a wonderful day!

All razed to ground. I hope the new one is more beautiful.

Thanks for the comments. Yes you are right that was the white garden.

I hope it's not going to turn the Adelaide Oval into a faceless concrete bowl like so many grounds across the world. And I hope there'll be a place in the new ground to remember the Chappells and The Don.

Oh, Sorry! What is called progress is not always the best:(

Fabulous night image. Hope you get to revisit this spot for so we can see what it looks like when the new you beaut stadium is built.

I only hope that "band new and world class" does not also mean dull! Even when I lived in the UK I knew about the cricket grounds in Australia - the WACA with its bounce and the Adelaide Oval with its short boundaries on either side of the wicket - I'm not sure that will be the case once they all look more or less the same.

But you did manage to get a good picture!

Well, it looks perfectly fine to me. I don't know why people think they have to have NEW all the time.

It is a shame to demollish such a beautiful oval with so much memories.

I guess they do not believe in saving money. I hope it is worth it. I love the lights and color on your photo, great capture.
