Still Morning Along The Torrens.............

Early morning on this stretch of the Torrens River is usually
a hive of activity with rowers from the nearby boating clubs
participating in their early morning practise session.
Unfortunately today the river has been closed due to
the pollution of blue-green algae - all is still!  all is quiet!

These quaint "Popeye" motor launches have been around since 1935 !
they carry sightseers between Elder Park and the Adelaide Zoo

It's terrible to say I've never travelled on Popeye -I'm not good on boats
.... maybe I should just take the plunge
think of the photo opportunities - from the inside looking out!!

Ahhhh the serenity. I prefer larger boats for a spot of sailing. Does the QE2 take a jaunt down the Torrens?

The "popeyes" look like motorhomes on the water! LOve the reflections in your photos.

Lovely captures Dianne - just rewards for your early morning hike. Even though the river banks weren't as lively as usual, that unexpected quietness can still be enriching in itself - as you've clearly shown.

I've been on a Popeye, so many years ago now. This is a beautiful river and your first photo is indeed so tranquil a setting...

peaceful photos. I've never seen these boats , I must watch out for them next time I'm down there. You and Bill would make a good pair of travellers . He won't go on boats without heaps of persuasion.

Ah yes, having the riverbank to oneself is a treat. I love boats, but I have trouble getting into and out of them these days.
I hope the algae problem is solved soon.

Your first photo is a quiet beauty. And, yes, the water does look pretty green. Of course, that could be the power of suggestion, after you told us about the problems.

It does indeed look nice and quiet.

Hope you don't mind but http://melbourneourhome.blogspot.com/ passed on the Liebster Blog award on our current post. Sue and I were awarded it through one of our readers in the Loire and wear the banner with pride.
You are one of our five favorite blog to read Dianne.

How serene. I guess the algae problem will disappear once it gets cooler.

That Popeye boat is a faded beauty!

Interesting boats, and it does look so serene.

It MUST have been hot when those pix were taken - but it looks so cool and calm!! I don't think being on Popeye would guarantee better photos - the perspective of the river is better from the banks (or a bridge) in my opinion!!

A riverside walk is definitely high on my list of life's pleasures Dianne and this looks like a beautiful one. Lovely reflections of the Popeye's, even though the waster has a problem it still looks very a very tranquil scene.

Well it is a good shot for serene. I'm not keen on boats either ... I prefer a mode of transport where I can get off when I get fed up ... which happens quickly for me when on a boat.

These boats look very nice. I am not a boat lover too, but this one would do for me. As long as they don't wobble and I can get on and off easy it is ok.

You have to take a trip on Popeye at least once - it's a lovely way to view the Torrens.

Nice pop-eye ride.

A late visit from Saturday Sareenity, hope you can still visit my Bridge View entry.

Serene indeed! However, I'd rather the walk beside the river than a boat ride...
