Church Among The Gumtrees.......

~ Golden Grove Uniting Church ~

A typical early South Australian country church
built in 1864 to the cost of 550 pounds
A small portico at the front to shelter the congregation from sun or rain
a copper metal cross atop the main building and a
bell used to herald the commencement of service
to the surrounding parishioners just in case they had
any thoughts of sleeping in !!

A corrugated iron roof and gum-trees completed the picture

Very like the little non-conformist chapels we have in England but in a semi-tropical setting. Surreal!

It is beautiful, the church and the setting. God would be happy to be worshiped there, I think.

What a perfect setting for this simple yet beautiful little church Dianne, love the idea of the bell to alert folk to the imminent start of the service, reminds me a little of the time when we were in Rome.
