I saw a lonely gull at Stavanger, Norway, too. I wonder if they know each other.
Beautiful photo, such a sense of space and light. It looks more like an oystercatcher than a gull - do you have those in Australia?
Jack:- I'm sure they are - most probably cousins - this one has taken a vacation south and is now pondering whether to make the long journey home or to remain here for the summer - friends are quickly made - he'll be fine.
Jenny:- you could be right - I thought after I posted the pic that his beak looks too long for a gull!!!in which case he's not related to Jack's gull in Stavanger.Yes we do have oyster-catchers here in Australia maybe that's what it is!
Such a gorgeous capture, Dianne! Love the wispy clouds against the blue, blue skies and the boats and lonely looking gull make for the perfect composition! Hope your week is going well! Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!Sylvia
That seems to be an oyster-catcher to me too! They seem to be happy wandering alone in my peninsula world too! Lovely burst of feathered cloud in this photo!
I think he's related to the Oystercatcher I saw last week at Holkham, N Norfolk. Certainly looks like him.Great picture.
If I were a bird and could fly to anywhere in the world, this looks like a good spot to be - lonely or not!
Beautiful ! :0) Happy New Year ! :0)

What a lovely sky this Friday.
Gorgeous view of the sky and the bay. I would love have have some of the summer weather here, but I guess I should not complain. Take care and I wish you all the best in 2012. Happy New Year!
John:- on closer inspection he's definitely related to your oyster-catcher over at Holham. I need to up the anti on my bird knowledge.
Wonderful water and sky, looks like you got your feet wet.
Haha I just laugh about the comment of Jack (above). Well somehow if one is alone he/she must be lonely. But don't have any idea of what kind of bird is this. Anyhow, this bird is in the right place ^_^ Wishing you a happy NEW YEAR!SWF
Great streaky clouds.Sydney - City and Suburbs
