At The Going Down Of The Sun.............

~ Sunset over the Gulf of St Vincent ~

As the sun hovered low over the horizon
before slowly disappearing - it left in its wake
a magical treasure trove of rich colours

Today here in Australia it is "Remembrance Day"
when we remember the members of the armed forces
who lost their lives in the line of duty.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month
our nation along with many other nations
 pause for 1 minute silence.
.....................
"At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them"

I like the first shot the most with the sun nicely toned down by the clouds and the lovely warm colors in the sky.

These pictures are absolutely spectacular! My brother visited Australia for three weeks and he loved it. It has always been my dream to visit Australia but I am afraid to fly and the flight is something like 24 hrs. long...mamma mia! Anyway, I am your new follower from the other side of the world, Rome!

very fitting photo for 11.11.11
my attention was captured not by the setting sun, but by the texture of the water - lovely

I love to watch the sun go down over water. We call November 11th Remembrance Day here in Canada too.

Your first image is just burning with rich red colors. Nice. Tomorrow we also celebrate our veterans. It was originally the eleventh hour of the eleventh month, but I think that connection has been lost for all but our oldest citizens.

Appropriate illustrations for Remembrance Day; it's still the 10th here... we follow you tomorrow. Though my daughter says that 11/11/11 is 'the day that most resembles corduroy'...all those lines!!

Two great shots and thanks for sharing.

Jenny:- Had to laugh at the bit about corduroy - but your daughter's right!

Wonderful sunset shot.

Sunset over water is always magical - and if I'm right, this is one of the few mainland sites other than WA where this happens??

Sunsets are the best! They never fail to amaze us.
Thanks for your comment. Yes the Friesian cows originate from Friesland in the Netherlands and they are black and white.
