"The Three River Fountain" .....

Situated at the north end of Victoria Square
these fountains are based on the 3 rivers from which Adelaide draws it's water
The Murray    -    Aboriginal Man with winged Ibis
The Torrens    -   Woman and Black Swan
The Onkaparinga   -   Woman and Heron

The crown like upper basin is in recognition of
the visit to our city by Queen Elizabeth 11

I like the sculptures of the people and birds. Great fountain. Is there plenty of water in all the rivers now?

A fountain should tell a story. Love it!

I've always liked the fountain and its acknowledgement of the history of Adelaide before European settlement. It's a striking piece of sculpture.

I really like the design of the aboriginal flag. I suspect it would be recognised by very few people outside Australia. I have to admit, I was pretty ignorant of that whole history before I came here. I've been intrigued by the sight of speakers at public events expressing gratitude to the indigenous people for the use of the land and also apologising for the mistakes of the past. Must read up some more on it, fascinating stuff.
