The Grand Marble Staircase.....

This magnificent Carrara Marble Staircase in the Samuel Way Building
was originally from the elegant Charles Moore department store
before it's conversion to the Law Courts.

The building was modelled on Galleries Lafayette in Paris.

What? They moved the staircase from one building to another? We have a law court in an old department store, but it is hard to say it is 'elegant'. This is gorgeous.

Never been to GL in Paris ...

Julie:- The original Charles Moore building was burnt down, save for the facade and staircase - They have built the present day Samuel Way Law Court on the same site using the existing facade and reconstructing the staircase out of the original carrera marble.
It is truly stunning!

Love how you have captured the symmetry of the architecture.

It certainly is magnificent.

Hee, hee. I used to spend half of my working day in that building and can still remember Don Dunstan opening the refurbished courthouse back in the 1980's. It's certainly a grand entrance way and I think ideally suited to the purpose. I'm glad they had the foresight to retain the staircase - it's magnificent.

Now that's what I call a stair case! Lovely shot.

That deserves a dress by Chanel and a tiara by Cartier.
I feel the need to "sweep" down those beautiful stairs!

Sparrow:- Definitely Chanel and Cartier territory
