Queen of the Lilies .....

~  Victoriana Amazonica   ~

I love this time of the year when lilies and lotus blooms
overtake blossoms in our lovely Adelaide Botanic Gardens

This lovely bloom has a life-span of only 48 hours
and has the most amazing lily-pads

At The Carrington ......

The Carrington - Katoomba, Blue Mountains   ~

enjoying tea and scones on the balcony of this wonderful historic hotel
steeped in history and elegance of a bygone era.

Originally built in 1882 it still remains as a place of accommodation
and fine dining in a country town, which in it's hey-day
was described as a nondescript little mining town

aged by time and the elements .......

This delicate camellia bloom aged and water-logged
had fallen onto the base of a tree trunk
Although there were bushes all around
covered in beautiful  fresh vibrant blooms - I loved this one
with the dappled sun alighting on it's rustic soft tones

cherry blossom time ........

Piccadilly in the Adelaide Hills  ~

wonderful old cherry trees
heralding the start of Spring

is hung with bloom, along the bough"

golden wattle and a little lost duck ....

 acacia - pycnantha

while walking around Laratinga Lake on the weekend
I noticed that our Australian Floral Emblem  - the Golden Wattle
was in full flower - such a pretty sight in our scrubland areas

this little Pacific-Black duckling had lost his Mum
and was paddling around and around in circles
I later found Mum with her other brood at the end of the lake
so hopefully at the end of the day they were all united

Meandering around Mawson Lakes .....

 ~psephotus haematonotus  ~

I spotted this colourful little red-rumped parrot munching out on seeds and grasses
while on a photo shoot in and around the Mawson Lakes area.

The male is easily identified by his bright red-rump feathers

although they are quite common in my area
I have never lost the wonder of finding a cluster of these
little gems feeding under shrubbery
or seeing their little heads bobbing up and down
whilst feeding amongst green grassy pastures

because of their sedentary lifestyle
and the fact that they feed low to the ground
many of these birds fall victim to domestic cats

Foraging for Fungi ........

photographing fungi isn't the easiest thing to do
it literally means getting down and getting dirty AND wet !!

These pics were taken in our lovely Adelaide Hills
with touches of autumnal gold still hanging on
adding a welcome touch of warmth to the damp and dismal hill-scape

Misty Morning ......

~ misty morning over Sydney Harbour ~

this pic was taken recently from the ferry
making it's way out to Watson's Bay
with the harbour bridge and city-scape faintly visible
in the far distance

Perfect weather for sailing !!
but this intrepid sailor was more than happy
to have my feet firmly planted
on ferme terra.

Almond Blossom Time .......

I've finally returned to Adelaide after a wonderful extended holiday
travelling around Italy and France in time to
enjoy our pretty Blossom-Time season here in South Australia

These pics were taken in the heritage rich township of Willunga
a 50km drive south of our city-centre where every year
they hold an "Almond Blossom Festival"
